Will it hurt my dog to eat a lollipop?

My dog is a miniture toy rat terrier. He just ate a lollipop ( a dum dum lollipop) that he found somewhere. Will it hurt him?

  1. If it had the tootsie role inside it then you may see a very sick dog. Chocolate can kill a cat or a dog or make them really sick depending on how much chocolate plus the candy isn’t good for them… they don’t digest sugar very well. NOT!!!

  2. it might give him a tummy ache from all the sugar but he will be fine. my pom once jumped on the table while i wasn’t look and downed a piece of frech toast…he was very hyper, but still okay. he’ll be fine.

  3. no just be careful of your dog’s surrounding next time. could be chocolate and he could die!

  4. you need to call a vet immediately. your dog could be at risk of illness or death.

  5. Nope.my dog steals my candy all the time.Unless he at the stick thats the only thing to worry about. My Pomeranian eats everything she could find but now she knows that if she steals something it’s the penny can.Chocolate won’t kill him.If he swallowed the stick call a vet and ask questions.Calling a vet is free and it wont hurt to call.

  6. Your dog should be fine. While sugar is not good for them and chocolate is bad a little dum dum won’t cause any life threatening issues. There’s less sugar in a dum dum pop than in a cookie or sweet bread. The only concern I have with a dum dum is that it poses a choking hazard.

Don’t misunderstand please – I am not advocating junk food for your dog at all and I believe in a healthy balanced diet for dogs for optimal health and to keep upset tummies at bay.

Rest easy though and keep the lollipops and candy put away.

  7. Dogs and cats should not have chocolate but he will be fine. Dont worry hun, it wasn’t that much chocolate that he had. Make sure he drinks some water though just to be safe. If he starts acting unusual take him to the vet asap.
