Why do you always hear about people hoarding cats but never dogs?

You hear all these stories about people with hundreds of cats, but almost never dogs unless its a puppy farm (which is another discussion all together). Just why cats?

  1. because people who own dogs are normal…..just teasing!

  2. dunno but we have an equal amount of each! i four dogs and four cats. yes my landlord knows! we have a rental house with a nice backyard. that’s all the pets we’ll ever have. even if some of them pass on we wont replace them. we now love having mice, dwarf hamsters and soon we’ll be getting an aquarium. it’s hard work raising our pets, it’s not good to have them just cause they’re cute as pups and kittens. they can not defend themselves, they need humans for protection, food, shelter and love. so there is NO turning back. these are our family members too!

  3. Probably because cats are easier to care for, are easier to get, cost less, and have babies much faster than dogs do.

  4. Because everyone knows that cats will patiently wait for you to die all alone, and neglected in your crowded, unsanitary house, BEFORE they will begin to feed on your corpse.

Whereas, dogs will start looking at you like a meal on wheels the minute you forget to feed them once. [What are they teaching you kids in school, these days, anyway?]

    Thank you, come again!

  5. You would go deaf if someone rang the doorbell

  6. It’s easier to keep 1000 cats in a small home than 3 dogs, dogs are noisy, cats are quiet. Besides cat people (3 cats or more) do tend to be crazy, seriously, have you met people with 9 or 10 cats?, they are usually pretty weird.

  7. I hear more ‘crazy cat lady’ stories too, but I have a ‘crazy dog lady’ story for you. :) My crazy Grandma has 12 pugs. As some of you probably know, pugs aren’t quiet dogs, you can ALWAYS hear them breathing, snoring, snorting and grunting. But not only does she have 12 pugs, they are all rescued pugs. So there’s a couple blind pugs, a couple deaf pugs, a 3 legged pug, a one-eyed pug, and various other health issues. They are quite a site to behold. She means well I know, but her house smells horrible and I can’t help but think, there could be other people who could better care for a couple of them.

  8. Cause people think cats are more cute, just imagine,a little, cute kitten looking at you with the kitty-face.

  9. Cats aren’t as big and dont require as much space as dogs, plus, you dont really have to pay as much attention to them– basically they just poop and pee in a litter box whereas dogs go all over the house if they are not let out. They dont need to go on walks, they dont need to be trained to be non-aggressive etc… Its sad, it shouldnt happen with ANY animal.

  10. Personally….I hord ferrets. :)

  11. Cats are quieter and can pretty much take care of themselves. Dogs are very noisy, when one starts barking they all do and they require more individual attention.

It’s not unheard of though. I just seen on Animal Planet last night, a woman that had 57 dogs in her house. All were in cages and very rarely if ever let out of the cages. So, dog hoarding does go on. But, you are right it’s usually cats.
