Why do dogs HATE it when you touch their tales?
I wonder why dogs HATE it so much when you touch their tales?
Is is just annoying, or are they very sensitive and it hurts?
My dog does not like at all, she jerks away and nips at your hand (not hard just kinda naws)
In fact- i dont think Ive ever seen a dog that really LIKES to have his tail touched or pulled? Why?

Because it’s built into them by evolution. Other animals would bite their tales in a fight, so the breeds that still have one, dont like it being touched.

None of my dogs ever minded their tails touched or messed with. But one of the dogs I have now HATES her ears messed with.

Have someone pull on your ear and then go try pulling a few other peoples ears. Remember their reactions. Now imagine what the dog thinks when you pull its tail. It’s annoying right?

Your dog just wasn’t taught to be ok with being handled. Not to many people think about doing that but i would suggest for people to get their dogs use to being handled for when they go see a vet. My dogs were like that but now they are cool with me handling them
Also you always see the show dogs ok with being handled. It’s trained

my dog does not mind her tail being touched at all … in fact i call it the safety rope and give it a tug every once in a while in play (jack russells have very strong tails as they were used to be pulled out of underground trails) … and i ask her something with my fingers around the tail and tell her to wag her tail which she does … i think it might be your dog that does not like it … there is nothing on my dog that i could not touch or inspect that she would jerk away or NIP !!! maybe your dog has a problem with her tail the vet should look at … and if nothing wrong with that tail i would be touching it daily and disciplining for nipping …
