the latter have separated the ‘good’ voices from the ‘bad’ and usually had training from another psychic or medium.

Schizophrenics most often have perceptions which seem to be internal in nature. They appear to be fantasies which are a product of uncontrolled subconscious processing in the schizoid individual.
By contrast, studies of psychics and mediums tend to show reasonably mentally healthy individuals among those who seem to have some legitimate abilities, such as research mediums and psychics.
Psychics and mediums hear voices only as a way of receiving information for which there is no known natural explanation. These communications are only considered legitimate when they can be verified independently and there is good evidence that no normal means of information transfer (including fraud or deception) could adequately expain this knowledge.
