Whats the best way to train a dog who’s already paper trained to go outside?
I have an 8 month old pug who we trained to go on the paper. But now when we let him outside to go he waits till he comes back in to use the paper! How do we get him to just want out to go?

it takes time but slowly move the paper closer and closer to the door and eventually put the paper outside this worked for my sister inlaw when she had a puppy that would onlly use the paper…..

This is a good example of why paper training isn’t a good idea. It sends the message that its okay to go in the house. Then you suddenly want it to go outside, and that confuses the heck out of them. Dogs do fine when they know what the rules are. But changing the rules is tough on them.
Instead of just letting him out, take him on a leash to a spot in the yard and encourage him to go. When he eventually does, reward and praise like crazy. It will take some time but he will get it.

Start moving the paper toward the door a little bit everyday. Eventually, move the paper outside and wait there with him until he does his business. Praise him for going outside, even if it’s on the paper. Keep moving the paper until you reach the lawn, making sure to praise the dog for doing his business. Once he’s used to that, remove the paper gradually and praise him a lot if he ever goes just on the grass.
Eventually, he’ll get the clue that he needs to do his business outside, and he will!

Put some paper outside in the area that you want him to “go” in.
Slowly make the area of appear that you have outside smaller and smaller (over time) and eventually you can take away the appear and he will go outside.
Jim Carey does a similar thing in the movie Bruce Almighty with the dog in the movie. it is funny but it eventually works.
