What kind of advice do you have for someone who puts the effort in getting the grade, but doesn’t get it?
I am super-interested in Economics and Mathematics. They both are subjects that I could study for the rest of my life. What kind of advice do you have for someone who puts in the effort, but has lower than normal scores in one of the subjects? I am doing great in Math. It's Economics I'm having trouble with. I understand the material, and I put my full effort in it, but the time and effort put into it isn't getting me the grades I feel I should have earned. So what could I do?

Figure out what your teacher wants to hear. In other words do they like lots of references or do they like to to embellish your own thoughts.

I would say just one thing. Scores are usually not the measure of how much interested you are in that subject or they are not even the measure of your skill.
Unfortunately enough, our marking system is so strict that there is no scope about proving your interest or your real skill. Another reason could be that you might like a challenged life and approach and hence you like Economics and maths as these are challenging and require you to analyse and research in these subjects.
To put it all in one boil, even Adam Smith was a topper!
I am sure if you keep your interest and move on, you will make a mark for yourself in these subjects.

Talk to your profs and ask them this exact question. Teachers love to talk to people who are really interested. Be sure to make clear that you are not saying that you think the grades are unfair, but that you realize you aren’t learning everything you could and want to know how to study better.
