what is a good way to start my persuasive essay about joining the military?
i'm writing a persuasive essay for english, to persuade people to join the military and i have the body of the essay written, but i cant seem to get the intro to the essay. help?

Start by talking about the history of the military and it’s achievements then go off into persuading them.

a few options (I hate recommending general-to-specific):
“twist type intro” – mention one common mistaken perspective, but work your way into a thesis that starts “A more enlightened examination shows military service to be critical for today’s society through _____, _____, and _____”
“lurid detail” – Would paint a disturbing picture of war protesters perhaps in the 60′s and today, then hit your thesis: “Despite _____, military service remains the obligation of every able bodied graduate due to ____, _____, and _____”. Depending on your audience, you could paint a picture of enemies past and present (past would be the Kaiser of WWI, often portrayed as a gorilla; present might be a car-bombing jihadist) or other propaganda.
“fascinating facts” – Usually mentions numbers (such as number of currently enlisted personnel, number of armaments dropped daily, etc) and settles into a thesis. Could also be a poignant story of the military that you have uncovered (remember the story read by the general to the three colonels in “Saving Private Ryan” about the death of seven brothers?)
“other” – killroy was here
