What is a good exercise for your abs that doesn’t put strain on your neck?

Regular sit ups and crunches tend to strain my neck even if I do them correctly. I sprained my neck years ago and it has just never been the same since.
Ok that may be true my core muscles may be weak. So any suggestions on how to strengthen my abs without straining my neck?

  1. your core muscles are weak, this is why you can’t perform a proper sit up or crunch. muscles in the upper legs, hips and low back are all used during abdominal training. when these muscles are weak the muscles in the lower back are recruited to assist but actually end up performing most of the work. this will cause pain and discomfort in the lower lumbar and erector spinae which runs the length of the spine.

    Edit:
I gave you the answer you need to strengthen your upper legs, hips and lower back. this will enable you to properly train your abdominal region.

what you are experiencing is due to muscle imbalances in your body. this is exactly why people in the fitness industry instruct people to exercise the entire body because muscle imbalances ultimately lead to injury.

remember that the chain is only as strong as the weakest ling
