What happens to a really good vet who suddenly becomes allergic to fur?

Wouldnt that really suck? :'(
Is there like a test vets take before working to make sure that they will not become allergic or is it just taking a chance?

  1. Usually you don’t randomly become allergic to something, you develop it at a young age.

  2. Probably not cause she/he is exposed to it all the time. The person would know before they go into that field whether they’re allergic or not; who would want to be a vet if allergic? And yes you can develop allergies at anytime in your life but these guys most likely build up an immunity to the dander.

  3. If they wanted to continue to practice, they’d get allergy densitization shots, take allergy meds as needed and wash their hands regularly (which they should do anyway).

  4. yes it would suck. but i want to be a vet and im not allergic yet and im 12. i guess i would have to take meds and allergy shots.or i would have to quit if it was bad.

  5. Well if that were the case he/she could take some medication to help with the allergies.

  6. they got meds for them just like most people out there allergic to animal dander or what ever with the money they make I’m sure they can pop a pill or get a shot.but I think they would have known since they where kids that they have allergys

  7. you develop allergies over time. i was never allergic to birds or cats and had them all my life then suddenly i became allergic to them. i had to start taking allergy shots and took them for over 5 years, daily pills and use an inhaler before i could begin to be around cats and birds again without having an episode.

  8. well all it is where they take the people into a room have them take a test and then they have this question that states do u have any allergic reaction to animals or fur and they would jot down there answer.

  9. You know its not really the hair or fur, that gives the problems,
its the saliva they use to groom the fur with.

  10. I used to be very allergic to cats.
I would sneeze like a maniac, itchy eyes and my chest would tighten a little.
I was put in a situation where I was forced to work with cats. In a small room with over 25 cats for over 4 hours.
At first I wore a mask and had a reaction but over time it got better and better until I stopped wearing the mask and had no reaction.
I guess I just built up a tolerance.
