  1. Stretch it some and do mild exercises. You may take warm to hot showers often, and work it a bit.

  2. Physio!! A physio can realease the tention in the muscles helping them get back to their normal position. If you are unable to get to one, treat the area with cold compress (ice) for the first 24 hours and then heat pads (or hot water bottle) for the next few days. Take it easy but do keep moving or it will seize up. Also use ibuprofen combined at intervals with paracetamol. ibuprofen will reduce the inflamation and paracetamol will help the pain. Don’t over dose just go with what the label says. I too have back problems these things have helped me.

  3. Protection, rest, ice, compression, and elevation (known as the PRICE formula) can help the affected muscle.

Apply ice packs and maintain the strained muscle in a stretched position. Heat can be applied when the swelling has lessened. However, the early application of heat can increase swelling and pain.

Take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents such as aspirin and ibuprofen to reduce the pain and to improve your ability to move around.
