My 7 year old cat has a hole in his neck I think it may be a warble how do i get rid of it?

My 7 year old cat has a hole in the soft tissue of his neck. It was a large lump but it popped and a bunch of puss came out now its just a leaking hole that bothers him a lot. He's constantly licking t and he doesn't want me to touch it. I think it may be a warble but I'm not sure. Can someone please help he looks like he's in pain and I have no money to take him to the vet.

  1. It may be an abscess. You can press out the goo twice a day (use kleenex) and keep the scab off it, it has to heal from the inside out. Having the cat on antibiotics helps immensly too. I’d phone the vet for instructions on what to do for a warble.

  2. You could probably get reasonable treatment at the shelter but don’t keep him in that condition. He could get infection at the very least. And just maybe the lump was a tumor, in which case he has real problems. Peace.

  3. take him to a shelter to get help or ring the vet for instructions on what to do and describe what it looks like and they may come out for free.

  4. Take him to sheleter /vet

  5. as others have mentioned try calling around to animal shelters and rescue groups to see if they can direct you where to go for discounted veterinary care.

try not to touch the discharge from the area…. this is HIGHLY infectious. you need to make sure to wash your hands extremely well after handling your cat.

  6. It is an abscess, from what you are describing. An abscess is what was formerly an infection that the body tried to keep contained much like a pocket, to keep it from spreading elsewhere. Eventually, the pocket bursts, resulting in a “hole” in the skin, as well as blood and pus. Overall, very gross looking fluids comes out of this hole.

He really should go to the vet because often times, fevers are present with abscesses. Also, surgery is generally required in order to clean out the infection, remove any dead skin and probably put in what is called a penrose drain. It looks like a thin rubber tube which assists with draining the abscess.

Call your vet and ask if they can work out a payment plan with you. Either way, I highly recommend to get your cat to the vet. If they won’t do it, call around and see if you can find someone to give you a break with cost. Abscesses can become serious if not treated properly and promptly.

    Hope this helps
