It should be illegal to force your children to go to Church?

Thinking back as a kid i remember hating going to church. Looking back on it and being a proud Agnostic, Its all a load of brainwashing. It should be illegal to MAKE your kids go to church. You shouldnt force your kids to believe in a false god anyways.

  1. No

  2. I disagree. Children need to obey their parents until they leave the nest. Period.

  3. What is sad to me is that churches make the experience so miserable when it should be a joy. My daughter has always loved going to church. She’s 14 now and goes more than I do.

  4. in that case it should be illegal to force them to go to school, do chores, and stop watching tv. A child is a child and as long as their parents are paying their bills, buying them clothes, housing them they will do whatever the we say.

  5. yes it should, church should require a high school education

  6. Thank you for expressing your OPINION.

  7. I don’t think it should be illegal, some people like to have their WHOLE family present with them at church, i guess it wouldn’t look right if you are at church but your kids are not. When they get older they will have a choice on what to do religion wise.

  8. It is the responsibility of parents to teach their kids what they know, from what they understand. After a child is grown they can do as they wish. In the same way we teach our children other ‘truths’ of life, as parents we are to teach our children truths of the spiritual realm as well! Children do not have the experience nor the maturity to make smart and sound choices. If they were allowed to they would not get their flu sholts, they would not take a bath, they wouldn´t eat their veggies, they would not attend school nor the church. Of course as any of us with children know, they will live their own lives as they see fit and we will love them and be there for them as they go on their journey through life.

Another problem is: there is literally no way to police religious teaching. It is something that acts upon children in religious homes as early and often as language absorption and other small matters of cultural literacy.

So, unless you are suggesting that all children be separated from their families so that there is no chance of indoctrination, this subject is essentially moot.

The cure being worse than the disease, and all that.

  9. Unfortunately there is a certain amount of Child Abuse that America insists on, and if you get in the way of what they want to do, it’ll raise serious hackles.

  10. I think to a certain age theres nothin wrong with makin your children go to church until they of the age where they can make their own decisions. Cant force your child to believe in your beliefs, its their choice. As long as you raise them up right and teach them the right way.

I also disliked goin to church when i was younger, but i started goin this year and lookin back im glad my mom took me :)

  11. Yes it’s wrong to do that. It’s a form of child abuse and those responsible should be prosecuted.

  12. NO It shouldn’t be illegal. When they grow up they should be smart enough to make their own decisions like you did.

  13. Yeah, I don’t really like the idea of forcing religion on children either. They have no choice of WHICH religion they’re supposed to believe in and they’re supposed to make this choice when they lack the ability to. It’d be like making a kid register as a Democrat or Republican when they’re 3 years old.

However, you can’t really make it illegal. After all, it’s their children and they can raise them how they want; they’re not doing too much covert damage. It’s more indoctrination and fear, but it’s not something that she be illegal wherein if parents do do it, they’re fined or sent to jail or something.

We just need to start educating people on the myths of religion and eventually the religions of today will die out just like every other religion in the history of the world.

  14. that makes NO SENSE whatsoever. you are to teach and train your child as best you know how. it would also then be illegal to visit your grandparents if it isn’t “fun” eat proper food, do your homework, go to bed on time, et al.

  15. It’s no different than “forcing” your kids to go to school. Parents know what’s best for their kids. You obviously have issues with your anger toward the God who created you. You need to get over this.

  16. I don’t believe that the Bible is inspired by any God,however it does have some value in getting across some moral ideals.
Parents need to let their children know that they can freely choice what to believe, but the children should never dictate to the parent what they will do.
Children will be able to do as they please when they are able to support themselves. Until then they can discover many religions and incorporate the values they are exposed to along the way.

  17. Yeah, that’s what we need, more laws…

  18. I disagree with forcing kids to go to church. But, I also disagree with any gov’t agency interfering with the parents rights to be a parent to their children. If we go so far as to say this is against the rights of the child, next thing we know they’ll be saying the same thing about school… that they are being forced against their will to attend. Imagine the chaos from that.

  19. I am agnostic. But i don’t think it should be illegal to make your kid go to church, but i believe it should be illegal to force your beliefs and opinions on anyone, even your children. You should let them figure that out on their own.
