I just picked up a kitten from the pound today. It has been dewormed, but a live one just came from its anus?
The cat was supposedly dewormed today and given something for fleas yesterday. It is two months old. It hasn't pooped yet today, but the worm simply made its way out. Is it normal for worms to just come out like that after the cat has been dewormed? What should I do about this?
Also, should I keep the kitten isolated from my dog?

Quarantine the cat for at least a few weeks to make sure there isn’t anything wrong with it. If it was just wormed today, then the medicine hasn’t gone into full effect yet. The worms should be dead within a few days time. Until then scoop the litter box as if it were a religion and make sure to wash your hands between kitten handling and dog petting to keep from infesting your dog.

Often it takes two or even three worm treatments for a kitten to be rid of worms totally. Take a stool sample to the vet tot determine just what worms you’re dealing with, and they can give him an appropriate worm medication. Once he’s had that, disinfect his litter box by dumping the litter, scrubbing the box with bleach, and refilling it with fresh. And yes, be sure to keep you dog away as the worms could be passed to him as well (especially if he “snacks” in the litter box, which dogs like to do).
