I just bought a bagle hound… ( anyone ever heard of it)?
and NO I dont mean beagle i mean bagle( cross between beagle and basset) I have a 13-14 week old pup And as i look at the pics online of bagle pups they are mostly muti-colored? This confuses me bcause mine is black but in the sun I see brownish red shades. Do you think his colors will develop with his age since he is so young? or did i get jipped?

You bought a mutt – ya, you got jipped! What did you expect from a crappy breeder? Did you not know this was a mutt or what the puppy looked like when you “bought” it? Ugh.

no such thing as a “bagle hound”
You have a bassett/beagle mix.. a common MUTT.
If you paid more than $50 or so to cover his shots and worming you got jipped.

Bagel isn’t a breed.
If you bought this puppy, as in handed money over in exchange for ownership.. you’ve been had. There’s absolutely no reason to ever mix breeds like that, so this person only really cared about getting your money.
Truthfully, there isn’t a way to tell exactly what this dog will be like when he gets older, or what traits he’ll inherit. Because, again, Bagel isn’t a breed.
You can be assured that you’ll have a stubborn individual on your hands that will almost certainly bay. Be prepared to hear a lot of BAROOOOOO.
Your puppy probably won’t change color. What you see is what you’ve got.
Other than that, enjoy your new family member, and don’t buy from anybody breeding crosses ever again.

Deffinately he will probably have more colors/shades of his coat showing as he gets older and bigger…since both basset hounds and beagles are multi-colored.

You bought a mutt, and there is no way to predict with any certainty what a mutt will look like. If someone tried to tell you “this is exactly what a Beagle/Basset mix will look like” and you believed them, then yeah, you got jipped.

Just wondering where you brought this, and by the way its NOT bagle, its Beagle x Basset Hound! The cutesy name is given to fool inexeperience owners in thinking they are buying a purebred dog!
You know you could have rescue a pup of the same mix for less then 1/2 the price you payed for this dog!
And you got Jipped into buying a mutt!

If you paid for a “bagle puppy” from a back yard breeder, yes you got gypped. No honest reputable breeder wouold ever breed a beagle and a basset together.
If you got it from a shelter, a mixed breed dog can come in all sorts of colors.

Well, you bought a mixed breed; you have no real way of knowing exactly what mix he is. So you’ got what you paid for. Listen A dog can’t help what breed it is. Just see the dog for a companion capable of giving you lots of love, and just needing the same love and attention and care from you.
Forget what kind it is; If its loving and you like it and treat it right…that’s all that matters. It’ll show you more love and companionship than you’ll ever give it.

I have a beagle/basset mix that I rescued. What you have is a mutt they have no breed characteristics because they are a mutt they do not breed true. Yours may always be black, and may not even be what the BYB you got him from claims he is as you got him from an irresponsible breeder.

You didnt’ get jipped unless you paid over $50 for the dog. He’s a mutt (friendly tone). I have a beagle/rat terrier/jack russell mix and I cannot tell you how much his coloring has changed over time. He used to b e mostly black and now he has lots of brown on his head and face and also has white. Dogs will be what they will be. Love him for who he is and forget about coloring. You can’t do anything about it anyway.

as a matter of fact i have heard of it and they are great dogs! here is a web to proove they exist : http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/baglehound.htm
but that is very irresponsible to get a dog without ressearching it !!!!! you should no exactly what you are buying before you buy it.. please dont think your dog is a mutt and dont give it a way . a dog is worth what you make them worth.. ( if you love your dog to you its worth a million dollars ) dont listen to others just enjoy your new family member and please next time do your research!!
i hope i helped please make me best answer

Your dog will probably not change colors, unless the breeder threw in some other random breeds in there and didn’t tell you about it, or it’s from a shelter and they’re not positive on the breeds.
If it is indeed a Beagle x Basset, it won’t as Beagles and Bassets are born the colors they will be as an adult. They don’t really fade.

YOU DID NOT GET JIPPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or you did if you really care about the color, not the actual animal. Where did you buy him? Because if it was a breeder I would ask them, but if he came from a shelter then color really shouldn’t matter.

Well you bought a mixed breed so there’s no telling what color he’s going to be. But as a rule of thumb, most dark colored puppies become lighter as they grow older up to about 2 years old for most breeds. Some dogs will continue to change ever so slightly throughout the years.
If you see brown, it might become more visible later in life but it’s not guaranteed. But you knew you were buying a mixed breed so I don’t think you got jipped.

Well, to be very fair.. it IS a mutt.. no matter what anyone else on here says (and I noticed a couple).. I don’t know how much you paid.. so, “jipped” is in your own mind.. I paid close to $100 for mine.. but mine was a rescue that was found as a stray.. a woman found him.. treated him for a pretty bad case of heartworm as she looked for the owners (this is not a cheap thing to do).. then when no owners were located, got him fixed with her own money.. spent time training him.. (didn’t get it perfect.. but better then when she found him).. and the money I paid was a donation to a local no kill shelter.. (I even brought it to them myself).. I don’t feel I paid too much.. (I decided the amount)
Basset’s come in several color combinations.. and I have seen some really dark ones.. so this coloration is not completely unheard of.. normally they try to breed more of the “hound coat” that is more commonly found in BOTH.. so the tricolor or brown/white.. but, as a mixed breed they have no way of guaranteeing that before the pups are born..
and both beagles AND bassets are known to get more white around the face as they get older.. (think more along the lines of 5 yrs and up)
Just enjoy the dog for what it is… a dog.. (and I hope you did your research, because you have an energetic, escape artist, with no food inhibitions in the making.. start training NOW.. and Good Luck because.. if trained .. even half way.. . it could be a wonderful dog to have around.. I don’t regret mine.. )
