  1. Parakeets are not the best talkers..may take a while..My mom had one for several years before it picked up any words..would whistle and say pretty boy..but we didn’t have the tape recorder thing like you do so it might pick up small stuff…good luck

  2. arrown 10. not more.

  3. Parakeets are not talkers.

  4. Who knows when that thing will stop. I hope he dosnt talk in his sleep

  5. You have to be diligent. And some birds (listen closely) are actually saying words but their bird voice makes it hard to catch. Saying Hello is great. Keep up the good work and dont give up!!

  6. Most birds respond better to being spoken to by their keeper. Use a cheerful and enthusiastic greeting and you will see results. Still, it can take a very long time before he will be understandable. I’d estimate a year before you see any real results.

Check on Youtube for a little fellow that talks non-stop, all day – he even sleep-talks. LOL

  7. Most of my research states that one you will have better results with your budgie on training it to talk if it is hand tamed. To do this I first suggest having his wings clipped. Budgies are more of a singing bird but they will talk. Keep in mind that their talking skills are not as good as your bigger birds for example the Quaker parrot is the easiest to train to talk and loves to do so.
I have three Quakers and while talking to my Quakers and training him to say pretty bird and do the wolf whistle one of my budgies has also picked up on it. But he does not say the words but will sit in front of his mirror and whistle the tune of pretty bird and does the wolf whistle.
I just happened to be sitting in the bird room and caught him doing just that I was really surprised. I only had that budgie for two weeks.
Recordings are good but you need to also work with him at the same time every day. I would suggest that you add songs and other words that you would like him to learn. How would you like to sit in a room and only hear hello every day? Most people say to treat your birds as if they are a two year old child. I agree your bird has a personality and gets bored real easy. try teaching it while he is having a snack millet’s, veggies,or fruits. Birds will learn to talk when they are doing something they enjoy.Sort of like at school if the teacher makes the lesson fun you catch on to more and retain it longer.
Give your bird a set time and a quiet place for you to train him each day I would say about 30 min a day. I suggested may be teaching him a song for one simple reason you may have better luck with him learning to whistle a tune. Children’s songs are usually the best. I am teaching my Quaker …To the tune of BINGO …..There was a farmer who had a bird and leajo(Quakers Name) was her name OH… L E A J O …L E A J O…L E A J O …And Leajo was her name OH….my budgie has also started whistling that tune.
Do not give up but keep in mind that even though you work with your bird every day you may never hear them talk. Some budgies just will never learn.
