How long does it take a molly to get pregnant?

I have three tanks.
30g- 7 girl mollys
10g- 2 boy mollys
5g- cycling.

I want to breed two certain mollys but i know theres the rule of 3 girls per 1 boy. Once my tanks cycled i want to put the two in the five gallon just long enough to mate.
How long will it take for her to get pregnant but not to stress her out too much?
Thanks:)

  1. A few days should do it.
However, unless you’ve had these girls separated for several months, she’s very likely already pregnant. Mollies can have multiple pregnancies from one mating, sometimes continuing for up to 6 months.

  2. Good choice on the selective breeding. I would say make sure the 5gallon tank is at optimum water quality before introducing the selected pair. I would first acclimate the female a couple days before the male so she is comfortable and not stressed by the move in addition to the male’s chasing and supply a couple plants or hiding places for female. Then once you add the male, i have had luck in just placing the male over a weekend (2-3days) after seeing the male actively “chasing” the female. Once this has happened, remove male and you should be ok as these fish are VERY fertile and even with one mating she can give birth multiple times. I think as long as your temperature is in the warmer range and salt is added, you should have fry in no time! Gestation is usually 4weeks.

  3. AMAZING!Check out the link in the blog post,
