How hot is too hot to take an African Grey parrot outside for a while?

We're going up to our boat today (not taking it out, just hanging out at the dock) and we're thinking of taking our african grey with us. He's been there before, but we're planning on staying longer than we've ever had him stay there before and I'm wondering how hot he can stand the weather. We have a cabin with AC just in case he seems to need some cool air.

  1. Not sure how hot is too hot, but as long as he can get in the shade if he gets too hot then he should be fine.
I always provide some shade for my Grey so he can cool of when he needs to.

  2. If it’s too hot for you to comfortably sit out, it’s too hot for him. If he seems hot (panting, doesn’t seem like he can get comfortable, other common sense things–) he needs to cool off.

  3. You’ll just have to watch him closely. If he starts to leave his mouth slightly open to breathe…then he needs to get in the shade. Birds do tend to over-heat fast.

  4. Your bird will be fine. Just make sure he can have shade and plenty of water. Also make sure his wings are clipped. Many people have lost birds that they have had for a long time by thinking that their bird would never fly off. Please read my profile.

  5. I live in a very dry climate and don’t take my cockatoo outside if it’s over about 93F or so.
In a humid climate, I wouldn’t take him out if it’s over 85.
