How does free energy apply to chemical reactions?
Please help me understand how free energy applies to chemical reactions... Could someone also help me understand what the hell is free energy? Please and thank you.

Free energy is a mesure of whether a reaction is spontaneous or not
If free energy (G) is negative the reaction is spontaneous
If free energy (G) is positive the reaction will not occur spontaneously.
G = H – TS
H = enthalpy (you can think of this as negative when bonds break and positive to form bonds)
T= temperature
S = entropy (randomness)
