How do I relieve muscle tightness from a ligament strain in the lower back?

I have had back pain/muscle tightness in my lower back for 3.5 months now and though I have been icing and trying not to bend my back I can't get my muscles to relax. The pain I originally had from the ligament strain has gone away, but the surrounding muscles are still tight. Any ideas? I've tried flexirol, but it doesn't work. Is there anything else I can try?

  1. If you wanted to go with another muscle relaxer you could try Skelaxin or Soma if your doctor will prescribe them. Another thing you may want to look into is some physical therapy. A physical therapist can help you out with stretching and a lot of different things you can do to heal.

  2. Rub it with… ‘Heatol Chinese Balm’… It works.
You can buy it iin most Asian cosmetic shops.

  3. Change from using ice to heat and then start a good low back stretching program. Then ask your doctor to send you to physical therapy. A good physical therapist can show you back stretches and some stability exercises to strengthen the muscles of the torso that support the spine.

  4. Heat is the “feel good”; ice is “the cure” because it decreases inflammation which can be the cause of your discomfort. If you have access to a hot tub, you couldn’t help but relax in there! If you’ve had Flexirol, you must have seen a physician. In that case, report that your symptoms have not completely subsided and request a change to another relaxant. There are many that can be utilized to monitor your body’s response to give you some relief. And, too, your doctor can give you a back ex. program or direct you to physical therapy for some stretch/strengthen activities.
