How do I have a conversation about the free market without people assuming I’m a Republican?
The Republicans don't support a free market. They support crony capitalism with a giant corporations that constantly get government help and government bailouts. A real free market would have a lot more small business. I constantly fight with lefties about the virtues of a free market because they've learned their definition of the free market from the Republicans who abuse the word.

Start off a conversation with “I’m not a Republican, but…”
You know, even with small corporations, some regulation is needed depending on the nature of the business.
One of the main goals of all companies is to put their competition out of business!

I don’t assume you are a Republican just because you talk about the free market. By the way the Republican voters are different from the people that represent them. There is a great deal of variety in views from the actual voters. The Republicans are able to stay in power by hitting a few key points that they for the most part agree on. OK let’s talk about the free market.
I hate to break it to you, but corporations will eventually dominate almost all small businesses. Outsourcing is very profitable. Small businesses have a hard time taking advantage of it and will be unable to compete with large corporations. The only way small businesses will be able to compete is through insourcing. Hiring illegal immigrants and people that come in on H-1b visas from China or India. Capitalism requires cheap labor. It always has and it always will. The middle class will cease to exist in the future, because corporations will out compete all of the small businesses. Argue with this contention all you want, but I am hardly the only one who sees this happening. How long will this take? I don’t know, but eventually it is likely to happen.

Endure. What’s important is what you believe.
