How can I reduce an XBOX 360′s chance of breaking or suffering from the red ring of death?

I don't have one yet but I will. Does the Slim have a lower breaking chance? Does the system really scratch disks and break 20% of the time? Are the rumors just sony propaganda?

  1. Reduce the chance of breaking or suffering a Red Ring of Death:

Replace the cooling system with a water cooling system. You know, like the ones in your computer. The airflow destroys your system more or less, because the heat fries the components. The airflow is basically…Heat generated at the bottom, flows out from the top. All components get fried in the middle — CPU, GPU, et cetera.

  2. The slim is incapable of getting the Red Rings. it will probably break down in a different way though. Xbox 360s ONLY scratch the disk if you move the system while running. If you don’t move the xbox while it is on and you get a slim you won’t have either of these problems.

  3. With a slim, you have better chances of allowing the system to live longer (yet xbox360 slim breakdown info isnt out yet for obvious reasons)

This is what you can do.

Allow space for the system and dont put it in a tight area. Same with the Power brick.
Also keep it in a area where it wont get tripped over or tipped down, cause that is probably 90% of why disks scratch in xbox’s and system failures.

The new intercooler ts will help too, but not sure if that is compatible with the new slim system

Those are the main reasons for xbox breakdowns and red rings, and im sure you got a 3year warranty if im not wrong, so your safe for that time anyways :)

  4. Rumors are true. We don’t have the slim one hover. Newer models theoretically should have better mother boards and not overheat as much, otherwise general tips for any console would be to give it plenty of ventilation, don’t keep it on a soft surface, like the carpet. And as far as scratching the disks are concerned, don’t move the 360 while the disks are spinning.

  5. The Slims are built differently from there predecessor and that could possibly eliminate the RROD altogether.Nobody knows if the SLIM will have the RROD until it is reported by a customer and confirmed through the Microsoft Tech Support. As to those rumors you heard i believe they are just Sony Fan boys getting pissed off that one of the main things there system had over the xbox 360 is also on the 360 now (built in Wifi). Those sony Fan boys will say anything to keep there system on top even though the Xbox 360 still has more sales than the PS3 and now with the new XBOX-360 SLIM those numbers might increase even more.

  6. 1. Reduce Heat!

    2. Load the games onto the hard drive the laser makes lots of heat. (also makes it quieter)

    3. Increase the space around your Xbox to allow the thermal energy to dissipate at a faster rate (my entertainment center has no sides. and I put small blocks of wood under each corner of the xbox I cut 1inch by 2 inch by 2 inch blocks of wood and painted them black)

    4. DO NOT buy one of those intercoolers they just blow the hot air back into your xbox and make it hotter.

    5. I have a table fan set up pointed right at my xbox from the side of the entertainment center. That allows the heat to be swept away.

Yes the new xbox is better It will shut itself down b4 it fries and it uses a cooler running cpu even newer xboxs produced after falcon chipset cpu s where replaced with smaller cooler running xboxs are much better. you can tell if its a falcon by looking at the fcc stickers on the bottem ( they tell how much electricity the cpu uses less is better) I don’t remember the numbers though.

Good Luck if you get an xbox 360 Im adelbertsmiter. I’m on all the time I have never have red ring of death. 1 yr old elite.

  7. Not as much as it used to, the newest/newer ones of course have less chance.

All consoles have flaws, yes the red ring is well known, but the PS3 has flaws too. For example if the batteries in the controllers burn out, you’re out $40 for a new one since they/re sealed in and you can’t replace them (like you can w/ a 360)

Either way I’d still call it smart to get the warranty if you buy it from a place like Best Buy

  8. No its not Sony propaganda…its a reality that somehow is still overlooked and sales continue..once you really look at xbox 360 vs. ps3, you wonder how microsoft even stayed in the running…

good news: the latest models of 360 are less likely to break down than the older models. better chipsets which run cooler and updates to the design have pretty much made the red ring of death a thing of the past. You can greatly increase the odds of a long life for your console by making sure it stays cool: keep it where air circulates freely and cooly..I had mine near an air conditioner in summer, near an open window in winter..its a computer with a motherboard and cpu, and the cooler it stays the better it runs.

if you’re still not sure whether to get xbox or not; here’s some more stuff that isn’t Sony propaganda, but simple facts:
if you mod your console, you can get banned from the online community..with the 360 console, there is only one online community you can logon to: the xbox live community
PS3 online play is free. and if you don’t feel like gaming, you can surf the web with a PS3.
xbox 360 lost the gamble with dvd playback..microsoft offered HD dvd; Sony has Blu Ray.

while xbox 360 seems plagued by breakdowns and problems, there seems to be little heard about a PS3 breaking down or having problems…why?????

the only real determing factor between the two is which library of games is more appealing to you..
i got a 360 cuz the library of games was more interesting to me than the games playstation has for its consoles. although many of the games are cross platform, and available for both consoles, there are games specific to 360 that i like better than the games specifically for playstation.
but i have no doubt that playstation 3 is the better console, and with the price drop it is now unequalled.
