can you start a persuasive essay using a quote from an anecdote?

i have an essay due and need to know please help.
i just need to know if i can start it with a quote supporting my topic that is from an anecdote..
anyone?

  5. of course you can, just make sure you use proper quotation marks and give credit to whoever wrote it. =] hope your essay goes well!

  10. gramatically, it can be done. your teacher may not like it though, we were always frowned upon if we did something like that. its sorta like the easy way out of coming up with your opening. thats how they think of it at least. but its not illegal in the english language

  12. uhm well actually I’m working on a persuasive essay for my English class and it’s due tomorrow. We were told to have an anecdote at the beginning of our introduction paragraph. So yes, definitely.
