Any reputable credit repair specialists out there?

Are there any reputable credit repair people/company I can contact to fix my credit? I am soon going to be facing foreclosure and my credit is really shot. I would like to get my credit fixed/repaired somehow? I've heard of people getting rid of negative items off your credit. Are there any goods ones I should get a hold of? I live in the state of Washington if that matters. Thanks!

  1. Stay away from the scam companies that you hear about in the radio or see on tv.
They don’t have your best interest at heart.
They are there to make thousands from you.
Money that would be better used to put towards your debt.

The best person to fix your credit is YOU.
Get a book on Credit and Debt Repair from your library or bookstore
There are many good ones like the Dummies series.
They will make you a pro at fixing your own credit.

There is also a non-profit out there.
National Foundation for Credit Councelling. NFCC.org
No cost to you. But all they do is what is clearly in the books…

  2. Credit Repair is a rip off. They don’t do a thing you can’t do for yourself and they charge you for the privilege. Many companies actually make your situation worse.

Get a free copy of your credit reports at http://www.AnnualCreditReport.com . If anything is incorrect, file a dispute and get it removed. If anything is small and can be paid off or fixed easily, do that. If anything is reported as late but has yet to go to collections, try to arrange a “pay for delete” agreement.

Anything that is true and accurate is going to remain on your report until it ages off and there isn’t a credit repair organization in the world that can change that.

  3. Credit repair companies are scams. There is not special form letter or secret method to fix bad credit. You just have to wait out the 7 year reporting period for the negatives to age off.

When your foreclosure dust settles, worry about rebuilding your credit. You will need at least 24 months of consistent, on time payment history to see improvement in your score.

A better use of your time and money would be learning more financial management skills and budgeting.

  4. there is so much information online to help you, there’s no need to dig yourself into a deeper hole by paying someone else to do something you could easily do yourself

It can be intimidating, but once you familiarize yourself, you’ll see it’s not so bad! I’m doing it myself right now too! I’ve already managed to have about 11 entries deleted and a bunch corrected as well as learned bargaining techniques to have more removed. Our scores have gone up about 20 points since I started and I’m not done yet!

I’d be happy to share a few links and tricks with you, you just have to put aside a few hours a week to devote to it.

  5. They don’t fix your credit. Nothing will do that. What they can help with is restructuring your payments so that you can eventually get things paid off. Your credit will still show as slow pay.

  6. It’s tempting to simply pay a company to “do the work for you,” but all credit repair services (that includes law firms) have two dirty little secrets they don’t want you to know.

First, because they charge monthly for their service, they make more money–up to $2,000– if they deliberately drag out the process, which is why they often take two or three years.

Second, you actually wind up doing MORE work than if you did it yourself. In addition to dozens of forms, the credit repair service requires YOU to personally choose which items to dispute, how to dispute them, and you have to constantly send them information that the credit bureaus send you.

There are several companies that offer credit repair software (not just an e-book). Although some are rip-offs (clue: unprofessional-looking websites), many credit repair software products combine the best of all worlds: simplicity, low price, and fast results.

What is the best go around or surf the internet to look the best to fix your credit rating.

    Good luck to you
